A good day out on the 10th July with Dave and the boys from the midlands a quantity of Mackerel for bait and the pot off Berry Head then on to the Skerries which produced a few nice Plaice and Gurnards before returning via an inshore wreck with Pollack. A good day out and look forward to seeing you all again in September

A good days fishing with the Builders, Plasterers, Plumbers and Electricians from Torbay. Great weather and skerries plaice, also a few surprises: - small Dab of about 12oz and Red Gurnard of about 1 1/2 lb not bad but tailed off after lunch and when the tide turned so tried a few inshore wrecks on the way home for Pollack and Pout but the weather had turned making it uncomfortable so very little showing (plenty on the sounder) A good day out with many of the guys wanting a return visit.
Long days at the moment can produce good numbers of Cod but its mid channel with a 5am start and a three hour steam out and back to give you a good days fishing, costs are a bit dearer because of the fuel used but if you are interested give me a call and we will put a group together.
Plenty of options at the moment for full or half day trips with some good fish out there

Hi All, March has arrived and for the past week we have had NE winds of force 4 - 5 so not much fishing. I've added dates to the calendar for over the Easter period when weather permitting we would like to be out there catching fish. If you would like to join any of these trips as an individual or just 2 or 3 of you let me know and I will book you on. To those of you just waiting to go as soon as the weather is viable and there are enough of you to cover the cost of the fuel we will go. Any special requests or any info. at all just call or email and I will get back to you. Lets hope for a good lots of fish season

Sat 1st Dec, a great trip Matt and friends down from Kettering, we needed fish, still a bit warm for the elusive Cod but we managed a good selection of Pollack and Pouting, mid afternoon the wind increased from the west which made what had been a good day into a bit of a lumpy ride home. Need to investigate a few local B and B's so that the journey down to us does not spoil a full days fishing, will get details and post links for you folks, can't wait for the colder weather and the Cod to arrive in our area, keep watching this space for further updates Nigel

Well what a good day Saturday 17th Nov was, a good group of guys a good start with a Bacon roll and a cup of tea and off to 20 miles off Brixham couple of wrecks 200 yds apart if the drift was right we'd get them both. Wrong drift totally wrong direction 1st wreck total blank so gave the second a goo and came up trumps. A good selection of big Pollack averaging around 15lbs what a happy bunch. Spent the day being in the company of Beam Trawlers 1/2 a mile or so away and passing cargo ships. moved to an inshore wreck when the going got lumpy and hauled up a few Pout. A good had by all as the photo in the gallery shows. We look forward to seeing more of the same Nigel

  Hello folks

Welcome to Optimist in Brixham and a big thank you to Matt for a great boat. We will as Matt explained be running Optimist from Brixham, Paignton, Torquay, Babbacombe, Teignmouth and Dartmouth wherever you choose to depart from, on fishing trips to the many wrecks we have within an hours steaming, looking for the usual suspects at this time of year, late Bass and Early Cod, we also have some very good banks with easy reach for flatties inc. Rays.
Also planned for next year are a few channnel island trips for Bass and Turbot. We hope we can expand as well with Wildlife trips, Dive charters and general sightseeing for small groups for these see our other web site www.optimistcharters.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you soon
in Brixham

Nigel and Pat

  THANK YOU
It is with some regret and sadness that I am informing you that I have felt the need to sell “OPTIMIST”.
I would like to say a big thanks to my customers for their loyalty, company and enjoyment you’ve given me over the past 5 years. I would like to think you’ve got something out of it to. It’s been an absolute pleasure watching some of you who borrowed gear the first times out and then progressed to getting your own gear and watching your fishing improve over the years, Between us, we’ve seen a lot of personal best fish caught and had a lot of fun doing it. So thanks for some great memories.
But as I think most of you know I have a tree surgery business and I’m also a retained fire fighter, and I just was finding it a bit too much with the charter business as well. Running back and forth from Overton to Gosport was taking the fun out of it, and it was meant to be about fun! And like all good things they all come to an end.
“OPTIMIST” is going to her new home down in Brixham. Where her new owners Nigel (skipper) and he’s wife Pat (support role) will be running her in a similar role but maybe tapping on dive charters as well. So if any of you are down that way, why not look them up and take a nostalgic trip out on “OPTIMIST”. I’m sure you’ll be made very welcome.
Nigel is a very experience sea man with many years behind him, including work with RNLI so he really does know what he’s talking about.
I would like to wish Nigel and Pat every good luck and every success for their future enterprise. Not that I think they will need it, they’re a great couple and will make it work, and there is some fantastic water down there, I will be making taking a visit down to Brixham for a fish, that’s for sure.
So there we have it. But it’s not good bye, as I’m sure I will see many of you again, on other charter boats when I’m come along as a passenger.
Matt from “OPTIMIST” out!
Thanks again.
Matt
